What’s the opportunity?

C.H. Robinson’s Managed TMS® Services are provided through the TMC division. TMC provides customers with expertise and technology that drive both immediate and sustained cost savings throughout their transportation networks. Core components of this service include Six Sigma-based process engineering, advanced TMS technology and TMS power-users, who serve as an extension of the customer’s staff. In our Managed TMS customers often retain control of transportation service provider selection, transportation service provider contracts, and rate negotiations. TMC is a global division of C.H. Robinson Worldwide, Inc. with offices in Chicago-USA, Amsterdam-The Netherlands, Shanghai-China, Mumbai- India and Wroclaw-Poland. Over the past 15 years, TMC has exceeded customer expectations for savings, productivity, supply chain improvements and carbon footprint reduction.

Today, TMC has over 400 employees, $3.4 billion in freight and we have been around for 18 years.

The Carrier Manager will serve as the primary point of contact to the customer’s carriers and will be responsible for building relationships, measuring performance and driving service improvements. They will represent the customer to the carrier. This role requires strong integration with the customer’s team, the internal TMC, customer account team, and owns the operational relationship with the customer’s carriers and warehouses. To be successful in this role the individual must possess strong relationship building capabilities, strong communication skills, a deep understanding of service and cost metrics, the transportation industry, and detailed project management skills.

What will you be doing?

  • Collaborate to create performance improvement plans to carrier and track improvement to plan.
  • Act as the extension of the customers logistics department.
  • Manages carrier rates, lane bids and maintains master rate file.
  • Publish and interpret carrier scorecards and service metrics.
  • Work directly with customer on large RFP exercises.
  • Act as carrier escalation point to assist with the resolution of any open issues and implementations.
  • May participate in procurement projects including, but not limited to: data extraction, analysis, formatting and presentation of rates and data related to pricing requests.

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent carrier manager experience required.
  • 2+ years in Procurement, Transportation, Logistics, and/or Supply Chain required.
  • 2 - 3 years of experience with freight forwarding required.
  • Customer facing experience required.
  • Exceptional facilitation skills including but not limited to relationship management, presentation, documentation and accountability.
  • Should possess strong root cause and analytical skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills, conflict resolution and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with various levels within customer organization (both written and verbal).
  • Ability to identify, understand and execute based on market trends and pricing strategies.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, Visio, PowerPoint & Project.
  • Flexible, able to think out of the box and strong team work.
