The Freight Pay Lead is responsible for answering all carrier freight pay related questions including client invoicing, adjustments and credits. The Freight Pay Lead requires excellent time management, problem solving, analytical, and customer service skills. The Freight Pay Lead works closely with client and carrier contacts to ensure timely and accurate payment and will be expected to identify and implement process efficiencies to improve overall strategic initiatives. A background in transportation, accounting or finance is preferred. Excellent working knowledge of Excel is required, Access and Crystal Seagate is a plus.


  • Creation and reconciliation of Customer freight billing
  • Responsible for generating and reporting Customer Accrual
  • Process monthly Service Fee Billing
  • Monitor carrier and customer aging via reporting and reconciliation
  • Initiate and oversee projects (savings, first pass yield, carrier financial scorecard, PFEL, accessorial/spend analysis)
  • Understand, interpret and translate carrier contracts for the purposes for audit and payment
  • Accountable for Compliance
  • Establish connectivity and integration points with carriers for invoicing and payment (EDI, ACH, EFT, etc.)
  • Test, validate, and implement new processes as they are identified with the customer
  • Act as an escalation point for significant customer or carrier issues
  • Train and develop other team members responsible for freight payment via standard work instructions or operating procedures
  • Identify and implement improvements within the scope of the billing and invoicing processes (including but not limited to automation, controls, systems settings & applications)
  • Ensure account practices are within scope of the contract with the customer and are aligned with Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required; Accounting, Finance, Economics or Supply Chain focus preferred
  • A minimum of 2 years of related experience
  • AP/AR experience preferred
  • Transportation, Logistics, and/or Supply Chain knowledge preferred
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems quickly and accurately
  • Ability to work in a team oriented, fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Customer-centric approach
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule on occasion, including overtime hours when requested
  • Collaborative work style required to be successful in this role
  • Self-starter, innovator, positive team player with ability to work with little or no supervision
  • Capable of producing quality work within tight time frames
  • Comfort level with quantitative work, formulas and modeling of revenue streams
  • Demonstrated experience in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel experience preferred
  • Information systems aptitude (TMS, ERP preferred)
  • Reporting experience with systems such as Crystal, SQL, Microsoft Access

  • Up to 5% travel may be required (domestic and/or international)
