Vice President - Global Forwarding Ocean Products (flexible location)
Responsibilities:
Strategic Business Planning and Management:
- Sets, articulates and leads execution and strategy aligned to volume and revenue growth expectations in all global trades - actively manages and adjusts short and long-term plans as necessary.
- Utilizes analytics to drive improved business decision making, efficiency, quality and profitability.
- Drives efficiencies in service through network and shared services collaboration with a focus on maximizing operational and technological efficiencies/enhancements within the network.
- Designs, implements and reviews structures within function to impact scale and growth, including role definition, and resource and headcount alignment.
- Builds, manages, and leverages internal relationships at the highest levels across service lines
- Develops strong knowledge of industry trends and market drivers and acts as a subject matter expert in communicating with various internal stakeholders.
Financial Management:
- Accountable for the financial performance of the service line that focuses on volume growth and AGP/File/TEU.
- Ability to balance growth in volume on key trades while maintaining the right financial ROI’s.
- Engagements with the ocean carriers and CMT leadership globally to maximize the Volume Incentive Discounts (VID).
- Engages in the budgeting process, monitors financial reports, metrics and analytics, and adjusts business processes, strategy, and resources accordingly.
Business Growth and Development:
- Accountable for implementing and reviewing high-level execution strategies within the ocean service line.
- Strategically engaged in opportunities to optimize resources, drive process improvement and consistency, maximize efficiency and ensure quality.
- Partners with functional leadership across various service lines and regions to develop and implement execution strategies.
- Maintains a broad understanding of C.H. Robinson’s products, services, resources and technologies and leverages those appropriately to optimize client solutions.
- Strong understanding of the digital marketplace.
Talent Management:
- Manages the performance and development of direct and indirect reports through both formal and informal performance management, coaching and feedback, mentoring and training and developmental tools.
- Manages the team’s reward and recognition strategies, including appropriate and consistent compensation administration, planning cyclical bonus and/or commission payments, year-end compensation planning, periodic compensation adjustments as necessary, and implementing other general employee recognition activities.
- Continued alignment with the company’s diversity and inclusion initiatives.
General Management:
- Oversees and adheres to workplace conduct, risk management and compliance practices within the function including regulatory compliance, responding to internal audit requests and implementing process changes as necessary
- Develops and maintains external relationships representing CHR at an executive level to ensure market visibility and brand enhancement (i.e. customers, shippers, carriers, industry groups, etc.)
- Responsible for reviewing and communicating quarterly ocean services results
- Other duties or responsibilities as assigned according to the team and/or country specific requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- Minimum of 15 years of direct FCL and LCL experience preferable with a global NVOCC
- Minimum of 10 years of direct people management experience
- Ability to travel up to 50% (domestic and international)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong ability to build internal and external relationships
- Experience managing financials for a large, complex business segment
- Demonstrates success in managing complex programs related to cost reduction and workforce effectiveness
- Broad market and industry knowledge
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including proficiency presenting to both internal and external audiences
- Demonstrated track record of leading strategic initiatives and creating logical and rigorous business cases
- Has a familiarity with the benefits technology can bring to pricing and commercial opportunities
- Track record of working across functions including sales and marketing, technology, product and operations.
