The Ocean Export Supervisor is an exciting new opportunity within our Montreal office to grow a team of Global Forwarding Agents, who are responsible for Ocean Export operations, customer service, and support. As Supervisor, your areas of focus will primarily consist of planning, coaching, leading and directing the work of the team, also managing the team’s P&L and financials, and leveraging performance metrics to provide a seamless customer experience and high levels of efficiency and productivity. You’ll demonstrate a strategic outlook and business acumen to grow the function by promoting the full commercial product portfolio to the customer base, identifying different solutions and working closely with the sales and product teams. 


Manage Operational Excellence

  • Find efficiencies within processes and develop more streamlined services
  • Drive the adoption of new operational and technological processes
  • Navigate problem resolution and guide service excellence
  • Develop Service Level Agreements for internal providers
  • Monitor process board activity and financial cleanliness 
  • Ensure Export Compliance regulations are followed and audit files
  • Collaborate with the Ocean Manager to define and execute a procurement strategy

Customer Activity 

  • Act as the ending escalation point for customer issues
  • Ensure customer SOPs are created and adhered to by employees and customers
  • Collaborate with Sales and Account Management regarding potential business and implementation
  • Leverage industry and operational knowledge to develop ocean freight product solutions
  • Conduct regular team meetings reviewing customer issues and current events
    Drive customer interaction on a personal level and develop relationships with carriers and clients


  • Manage, maintain, and grow a P&L
  • Analyze financial tools to assist management, account managers, and other commercially-focused roles
  • Determine strategy for the product and customers
  • Minimize unbillable losses


  • Motivate, develop, and support the team
  • Manage PTO and approve payable time daily for direct reports in Peoplesoft
  • Deliver mid-year and annual reviews of direct reports, and initiate employee meetings as needed to address performance issues
  • Recommend personnel changes/additions as needed
  • Coordinate and oversee training and development of team
  • Maintain backup/coverage plan for all customers & activity for employee absences, including GF Agent Supervisor admin responsibilities
  • Desire to work with a collaborative team of other supervisors
  • Conduct regular team meetings, reviewing processes and current events


  • Organize/Maintain shared team records and information (G:Drive; Sharepoint, as needed)
  • Attempt to resolve system issues before escalating
  • Drive adoption of new technology as needed

 Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Ocean Export experience
  • Experience managing and mentoring a team
  • Working understanding of P&Ls and other business-related financials
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and nurture customer relationships
  • Demonstrated flexibility to support department, product, and customer needs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Positive attitude and drive to succeed
  • Travel up to 10% (customer meetings, projects, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred)
  • Strong multi-tasking skills, able to prioritize ever-changing daily tasks
  • Strong attention to detail and sense of ownership
