Junior Database Administrator

The Database Administrator is responsible for system health, performance, and availability of our application environments. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, have a customer-focused personality, a strong inner drive for continuous improvement, a sense of urgency, and a willingness to learn new technologies. Communication and ownership of problems are integral to this role.
This Database Administrator will be on the front lines of support for the wide realm of technologies within the Database domain. Primary responsibilities for this role will be to engage in high-priority incidents, identify root causes, restore service as quickly as possible, and identify opportunities for future prevention.
DBA will also be primarily responsible for the migration and execution of SQL stored procedures and scripts, Database clustering, and other components within the Database domain.
What will you be doing?
Operate in a “war room” setting with a focus on incident prevention, mitigation, and monitoring and detection strategies;
Deploy and support Database, and 3rd-party systems across multiple environments;
Ensure performance and availability of tools and systems via real-time monitoring and triage;
Investigate system resource spikes and anomalies;
Automate repetitive duties to reduce time and human error, and to enable delegation of support tasks;
Manage disk space;
Review dashboards for application telemetry;
Work with monitoring and application teams to ensure that proper monitoring is in place for tools and systems;
Create documentation for support processes and procedures;
Participate in handoff and assumption of support and deployment activities to/from other regional team members;
Tools/Equipment: Windows SQL Server, Windows Server, F5, PowerShell, SSH, Ansible, PKI/certificates, Active Directory, VMWare
What are we looking for?
+1 years of enterprise experience maintaining, supporting, and deploying to production systems;
Must be proficient in more direct experience with MS Transact-SQL with demonstrated experiences;
Must be proficient in Microsoft Server technology;
Must be familiar with load-balancing and traffic management technologies (F5);
Proficient in at least one scripting language (ie. PowerShell, Bash), with desire and aptitude to learn others;
Positive, collaborative attitude;
Proactive, accountable, autonomous, and solutions-oriented;
Strong troubleshooting, facilitation, and communication skills;
Demonstrate previous experience in establishing and utilizing processes and metrics to manage support activities.
