Are you an experienced leader in the global trade compliance space?  If so, C.H. Robinson is currently seeking a Vice President of Global Compliance that will develop and execute the strategic direction and global management of all aspects of C.H. Robinson’s trade compliance programs.

In this role you will be responsible to drive and enable trade compliance excellence across the organization.  Ensuring C.H. Robinson follows policies to minimize trade risks will be a critical part of your role. You will develop and implement self-assessments, identify gaps, and create corrective action to support compliance across our global network. This includes assessing that there is sufficient focus and resources dedicated to the trade compliance function for each location and making recommendations to key senior leaders.

Experience in working collaboratively across internal functions in order to ensure they have implemented effective compliance internal controls that meet current regulatory requirements for all countries and regions in which C.H. Robinson conducts business will be important to your success.

Prefer candidates to be in a major metropolitan location.

Responsibilities:

  • Engage in conjunction with country/regional customs and trade organizations to document requirements, create functional and standardized processes within C.H. Robinson’s global networks
  • Develop communications and training plans to ensure all internal and external partners are aware and aligned to trade compliance governance processes
  • Work in collaboration with leadership, product and business teams, and external partners to create and enforce trade compliance
  • Manage global import/export regulatory changes that impact C.H. Robinson’s global network
  • Communicate regulatory changes, as well as the associated impact on stakeholders
  • Collaborate with operational leadership to develop required processes to ensure compliancy in regulatory changes
  • Build, track and maintain content and metrics to monitor for actionable insights
  • Monitor proposed changes in global import and export control law and regulations
  • Assess impact of global import and export control law and regulations on C.H. Robinson’s business
  • Leadership of periodic audits, assessments, and reviews to ensure compliance to policies
  • Develop, deploy, and improve global trade compliance program and procedures that meet evolving regulatory changes
  • Assess resources dedicated to the trade compliance function for each region/country
  • Collaborate with training departments in the creation of trade compliance training programs and appropriately identify and prioritize high-risk practices by country/region
  • Work with C.H. Robinson departmental leadership to develop a communication strategy for global trade compliance program to increase visibility of the function within C.H. Robinson and enhance employees’ understanding/awareness of Global Trade Compliance issues

Talent Management:

  • Oversees the optimization of segment-based portfolios that align, to yield the best possible customer outcomes and the creation of internal efficiencies
  • Continuously coaches and develops highly skilled team members
  • Creates and inspires team towards a shared vision to increase engagement, achievement of goals and customer impact

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Licensed Customs Broker
  • 8+ years of experience in international trade within a global organization including experience in a compliance related function for both imports and exports
  • 8+ years’ experience commensurate with extensive knowledge of handling imports and exports in accordance with foreign government regulations
  • 5+ years’ experience leveraging technology to analyze business problems and drive process improvements
  • Experience interacting with global custom authorities and other government agencies
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of global trade laws and regulations including those administered by CBP, BIS, OFAC, DDTC or similar global regulatory agency requirements
  • Strong knowledge of North America, LATAM, EU, EMEA, Oceania and Asian import/export compliance regulations
  • Ability to travel 50%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication and presentation skills and the ability to clearly convey relevant information to a broad spectrum of global audiences
  • Highly effective in a global matrix environment; influence and empower geographically dispersed and diverse teams to realize strategic visions
  • Knowledge of internal treaties and agreements that impact internal trade compliance including but not limited Wassenaar Agreement, Australia Group, non-proliferation, and facilitation regulations, etc.
  • Detail oriented and highly organized with ability to multi-task several projects at once
  • Proven ability in comprehending complex issues and providing experience-based solutions
  • Maintains awareness of international activity, trends, upcoming changes to regulations effecting the international trade environment.
